  1. The big difference between GFI and GFCI is that the GFI is designed and installed to stop electricity to THAT outlet, while the GFCI is designed and installed to stop electricity to the whole circuit, in coordination with a GFCI breaker. - Also, (at the very least) in the state I live in, GFI is no longer code for new construction and/or wire runs with outlets within a certain distance of water fixtures.
