  1. When I started college in 1985, the best gift I got from my grandmother was a Brother portable typewriter. I got more than a couple of free sandwiches by loaning that thing out. It eventually broke, something inside bending and jamming the works beyond my then ability to find and fix. But that happened just as home computers were becoming affordable, letting me replace the typewriter with a Commodore computer and printer. Yes, I am OLD.
