  1. A few decades ago, the place I worked at had an unwritten policy for the disposal of those long fluorescent tubes because recycling was wholly unavailable in the region. The dumpster company would refuse to pick up a dumpster with fluorescent tubes in it, unless they were BROKEN fluorescent ones. So a couple times a year, when the bulbs were replaced, we would have fluorescent tube javelin Olympics, with the loser sweeping up the misses.
