  1. A simple way to make a traffic jam is to slam on your brakes or make someone else slam on theirs (by cutting them off). In short the people behind the braking car will brake more than you did eventually leading to a fully stopped car on the freeway, the jam will only clear if more cars leave the "traffic snake" then enter it. Surprisingly, driving like a good driver helps traffic and driving like a bad driver hurts traffic. Also the best solution to traffic is to not let personal cars into cities AND have good mass transit. (Rural places need cars since rural mass transit is economically impossible)
