Sydney Swans used to be South Melbourne, Western Bulldogs used to be Footscray, Brisbane used to be the Bears, as in koala bears, lol, but merged with Fitzroy Lions, hence Brisbane Lions, Fitzroy went bankrupt, West coast Eagles were the first club to join what was the VFL in 1987, Victorian footy league and paved the way for what is now AFL, Brisbane followed not long after, then the SA teams, the Dockers started in 1995, same year Brisbane merged with Fitzroy, GWS giants and Gold Coast Suns are just babies. Dockers, GWS and Gold Coast are the only 3 teams to not yet win a premiership.

  3. GWS and the Gold Coast teams are the youngest and had the cream of the crop when the AFL introduced them, yet they are yet to win a premiership, as are the Dockers, but they have been around since 1995.
