It is interesting, how others perceive the danger of water/swimming, Aussie kids are taught to swim as early as infancy, we grow up so early knowing how to swim and water safety, sooo many people come to Aus that don't have that background and end up in trouble and some drown. Bondi Rescue, the tv show, can't display enough to tourists how dangerous it is.

WA AKA 'windy as' A lot is talked about NSW and VIC but Perth has extremes too, while flooding was going on over east, we were in a mega heatwave, it is nuts.

  14. The planes and choppers dumping water was in my home city of Perth and was for display on Australia Day on the Swan River, we have fireworks later on and are usually shot from a barge in the river.

Here in Perth we are heading towards having nearly 10 zones in our train network, to get from one side to another was expensive, they have now made it that in one trip you will only be charged 2 zones max no matter how far you go. Say Joondalup to Mandurah is 100km, with a smartrider card with autoload it's just 4 bucks.

Kangaroos are daft animals, had many encounters, 1 hiking that freaked me out, it was about 7 feet tall on the Bibulmun Hiking track, I just stood still until it buggered off, hit 3 fatally in my Hilux over the years, hit one in Albany, my home town, on a golf course with my ball, it was laying down and miss hit the ball and felt kinda bad when it hit the roo, roo was unfazed,

  23. I like to follow trucks when I am on a road trip, most drivers will want to get passed them asap but personally I feel it is the safest place to be, they are the best drivers and provide a lot of protection, if you have a radio you can also talk to the truck drivers.

In my home town of Albany WA, we had a car museum called 'The Extravaganza' built by Paul Terry, it was multi level and huge, they were his cars, my favorite was the Countach, it was so big to me at the time, got to sit in it, now all grown up it shocked me how small they actually are lol, He died in a heli crash, his wife sold them all and has now been demolished.

  36. Tap water, depends on the municipality, region or specific town, most of our tap water is perfectly safe to drink, some places have terrible ground water due to many things like runoff pollution from farming, drought, ageing pipes etc, Overall Aus water is safe.

Grew up with Bull Ants in the playground at school, in the 80's our playground was built amongst bushland, not the concrete and plastic crappy ones you see nowadays, and they fricken hurt when they bite. grow to well over an inch long.

Not too far from where I live in Perth, you can go to the country town of Gidgegannup, 380 Clenton Rd, to see the memorial of the Great Peter Brock, where he tragically lost his life in a street rally September 8th 2006, He was driving a Daytona coupe. His co driver Mick Hone survived.

  53. Bathurst's Mount Panorama is the gnarliest race track on the planet. Also thank you for paying tribute to Brock, he died in a road race in Gidgegannup, a country town not far from Perth where I live in western Australia, have been to see it, it is quite discreet and the locals don't really like too many people crowding it. Cheers mate, will try to get ya more Aussie stuff when I can afford it, and make sure that they can make the trip without spoiling.

  54. built with a mate in my 20's a hybrid bike out of a DT80 frame, 250 forks and suspension and 125 motor to take to Giacci sand quarry in Gelorup in Bunbury which is 2hrs south of Perth, totally trespassing but so much fun, lots of dune climbing and bowl wall riding in the cutouts, built a little enduro track out the back of the quarry through the bushed area. nothing near crazy as this but still had some pretty epic wipeouts.

I am with you Ian, I don't like the way they have to try get it done so fast, I think pit stops should have a minimum time, then anything extra goes to lap time, it would take the pressure off a little and costly mistakes will be avoided, at the end of the day, it is the skill of the driver that we want to see.

  58. Here a Freeway is a Metro thing, high speed multi laned road usually 80 to 100kmph, Highway is mostly country, long distance road, mostly single or dual laned and 110kmph. Kiwis will call all of it Motorways lol,
