The mainland is using Hong Kong as a testbed for democracy, and it appears the test has failed, Hong Kong is in chaos, protests are destroying Hong Kong's economy, so why should democracy spread to the mainland then? Mainland cities are thriving under CCP rule, while Hong Kong is suffering under democracy.

Hong Kong was taken from China by Britain. During the 19th century, the British wanted to continue drinking Chinese tea, but China did not want anything the West had to offer, so Britain waged two bloody wars with China and forced Chinese to buy opium from them, which we didn't want, because it made us sick and was poisoning our people. During this weak period of Chinese history, Hong Kong was taken and made into British colony to act as drug distribution hub to spread the addiction throughout rest of China. Even after Britain renounced ownership over its former colonies, Hong Kong was not fully returned back to China, instead China had to sign Sino-British declaration just for Britain to handover what belongs to us.

Majority of those Hong Kong protestors are students, who haven't even graduated from school yet they already think they know how to best govern Hong Kong? Their teenage minds haven't even matured, and they haven't even stepped out into the the real working world of adults and find a job, yet they already think they know real world politics?

@EuriEuropa China's ghost cities are slowly being filled up. For example, in 2011, London’s Daily Mail reported that the Zhengzhou New Area was China’s largest ghost city, but today, the city has a population of 10,120,000 inhabitants, and had a GDP of 1,014 billion(RMB) in 2018. Civil War? Hong Kong does not even have a* military* of its own, it was under British Army protection while as a British colony, and today, it is under the People's Liberation Army's protection. The people of Hong Kong don't even have to serve in the military, and they don't have to spend money on a defense budget at all, so they can concentrate their money on their economy instead.

China desires stability in Hong Kong, so why would the mainland government cause instability in Hong Kong? Hong Kong will eventually be fully returned back to China by 2047 anyway without the mainland lifting a finger, so why would the mainland stage protests in Hong Kong?

@peterjones5243 Tiananmen Square is where Mao Zedong proclaimed the People's Republic of China back in 1949, where the portrait of Mao is hung, so what's your point?

@Andrew-oj3pv Modern China was built by the sweat, blood, tears and sacrifice of the Chinese people and the government to turn China from a dirt-poor, war-torn, starving country, into the world's 2nd largest economy, the world's factory (Made in China) a growing scientific and technological power, protected by world's largest land army, the People's Liberation Army. And it's all been achieved under CCP leadership, despite Western anti-Communist propaganda constantly denouncing China's success.

@Blessedone333AZ Chinese people are free to travel overseas for work, study or play. I mean, Everyone has heard of Chinese tourists visiting your lands and spending coin on your economies. Western schools and universities are positively flooded with Chinese international students and Chinese investors are buying up property in your lands.

@2rodcampedison648 During the 2018 Taiwan election, the pro-independence DPP suffered major defeat and lost two posts to the pro-unification KMT, until even the pro-independence Taiwan president Tsai resigned after this humiliating defeat. So doesn't that imply that majority of the people of Taiwan don't want independence, given that they voted against Tsai?

@Allumious Hong Kong thrived under authoritarian British colonial rule since 1841-1997 and only when democracy was introduced to Hong Kong, in the form of One Country, Two Systems Policy, did Hong Kong began suffering from protests.
