@papa_pt In the past, as a British colony, Hong Kong was once a thriving port city closest to mainland China, (while the mainland was still dirt-poor at that time) Today however, times have changed and Hong Kong has since fallen behind other rising mainland port cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Ningbo-Zhousan and is facing increasing competition from upcoming mainland cities like Qingdao, Tianjin, Xiamen, Dalian, etc.

And this is in spite of mainland cities being under CCP leadership, whereas Hong Kong is under their own democratic government. No wonder why the Hong Kong people feel like they're being left behind as mainland cities start surpassing them.

@EuriEuropa China's ghost cities are slowly being filled up. For example, in 2011, London’s Daily Mail reported that the Zhengzhou New Area was China’s largest ghost city, but today, the city has a population of 10,120,000 inhabitants, and had a GDP of 1,014 billion(RMB) in 2018. Don't believe me? Check out this beautiful video of Zhengzhou: youtube.com/watch?v=jFdLkgDS-QE&t=8 (Suggestion: Watch in HD Fullscreen for the best experience)
Every year, there are millions of people migrating from the rural countryside in China to the urban centers to find jobs, and slowly, our cities are getting filled up. It just takes times that's all.
