  1.  @thinking-ape6483  I don't think so. I would say Matt has perfect Japanese because he spent thousands of hours learning the language. I have never seen someone learn a language with "talent" They are always ordinary people who have been extremely dedicated, studying and consuming content over a long period of time.

  3.  @thinking-ape6483  If you went running everyday and Usain Bolt never took up running, you would be faster than him. There are other factors that contribute to someone achieving something. People have different interests, inborn predisposition, economic situations, physical and mental limitations etc. The difference with language learning—as the other commenter said—it's a fundamental skill that is universal. 99% if people are fluent already in their native language. If they simulated full immersion into a second language for a long period of time it would be impossible for them not to become fluent. The difference is 99% of people lack the motivation or knowledge to achieve it (a native level of language acquisition) How many people do you know whoever studied a language? Now how many have learned the most effective learning methods for themselves and immersed in their target language for years consistently? The results speak for themselves. If Matt decided to study 5 minutes a day on Japanese Duolingo and I did AJATT for years I would be way more fluent than Matt. He isn't more talented. He is more dedicated.
