@kpopgrrl Like I said, it's just human arrogance to somehow believe that choice is morally superior to other animals.

@Negativezero48 Some people do in fact eat large salads as as their primary meal... Not sure where you get the idea that people never eat lettuce for calories. The number of buffalo a couple hundred years ago pretty much equaled the number of cows in the US today. Also I never said we a required to eat cows at the same rate we do today. People are fixated on cows as if that is the only measurement for meat consumption. Rabbits are highly sustainable and have a super low carbon footprint. You can also choose not to buy pork and chicken from factory farms, but rather local farms that practice sustainability. We cannot sustain our current ecosystem on just plants. Even our industrial agriculture relies on fossil fuels in the form of petrochemicals for pesticides and fertilizers.

@hematadopormenos How are my arguments "nonsensical"? You were obviously wrong on the facts in some of your comments. So to turn around and call my arguments nonsensical without any basis for it, seems more like you have a dogmatic attachment to your ideas rather than a rational one. The fact is factory farming, whether it's plants or animals, is damaging to the planet. What I said about rampant use of fossil fuels (petrochemicals) in farming is entirely correct. It's unsustainable. We have to learn how to manage ecosystems of plants and animals as opposed to just treating life like a machine. This is something that Native Americans knew all to well.

We spent about 2 million years evolving into hunter gatherers. Cooking actually makes vegetables more palatable than meat. As long as it's fresh there is almost no meat that you couldn't eat raw. However there are quite a few plants that are toxic when eaten raw. The discussion about sustainability has to involved both plants AND animals. You cannot create the ecosystem that exists today with just plants. Maybe that means switching to smaller animals and insects, but fossil fuels and petrochemicals for fertilizers and pesticides are basically what modern agriculture relies on. That isn't sustainable even if you took cows out of the equation.

Most other animals on this planet consume other animals.... I don't get how human beings can claim moral superiority by not eating meat. Respect and sustain life, all life. Your factory farmed corn and pesticides wiping out insects, amphibians, rodents, and birds is not morally superior to me. Pretending that animals are just dumb and don't know better is just human arrogance nothing more.

@hematadopormenos Wrong, most animals are not in fact herbivores. Most animals are omnivores or carnivores. However even many herbivores will eat meat when given the opportunity. Furthermore things like lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, can have a higher carbon footprint than pork and chicken... Rabbits are an incredibly sustainable source of meat and have a super low carbon footprint. Most of the studies done on meat and climate change focus purely on factory farmed cows fed mostly grain. They don't even look at 100% grassed cows which have a MUCH lower carbon footprint, because they DON'T eat grain and require large grasslands to graze on and all that grass absorbs more carbon.

@hematadopormenos Humans are held to their own standard for survival not a lions standard. Just like a lion isn't held to a bears standard. --"In fact, an abundance of animals including a majority of our closest primate cousins are completely herbivorous" That is completely false. Our closest cousins also eat insects and small animals. You people are pretty clueless about other animals. You really are. I never said I emulate carnivorous animals. I only emulate are own species which has been hunter gathers since before we were even homo-sapiens.

@jamesoneill1303 There are already many survival shows that do that already.

@luv4vrv Did it occur to you that feeding grain to cows and chickens was never healthy for them? Feeding OUR food to ruminants is something done for convenience, not out of necessity. They are designed to grasses and leaves that we cannot eat. Chickens are designed to eat bugs. --" But I wouldn't eat a blowfish raw either. " Is blowfish somehow a regular part of our diet?... 😂 Things like potatoes, legumes, and many other foods are staples which require cooking. There are many vitamins that we primarily get from animal products CLA, B12, Vitamin D (if you don't live in a sunny part of the world), Omegas. You are mistaken. Anyone who is a strict vegan has to monitor their nutrition to get all the vitamins they need. The people who live the longest (100 years or more) are not vegetarians, they are omnivores like we've always been.
