  1. You're assuming that DeSantis is even planning on running... The smart play would be to sit out the next election. If Trump wins, DeSantis loses nothing. If Trump loses, DeSantis loses nothing. If that's his plan then getting into a direct fight with Trump doesn't gain him anything right now. Whereas capitalizing on "Trumpism" until 2028 gives him all the advantages and none of the downsides. The only reason he's not saying "I won't run" is because Trump may get indicted before the race begins.
