By Emma's logic, anytime a boss says "it's up to you" it's never up to you. It would imply that bosses can never give freedom to any employee because everything is based on an unspoken coercion. So I don't really buy that argument at all.

@clareshaughnessy2745 Umm... If you're translating "it's up to you" to "do as I say" then I think it is more correct to say that you would be the perfect employee for Dave Rubin. Because most people would just do whatever they wanted to do instead of thinking there's some secret mandate.

@clareshaughnessy2745 So an employee not reading into a subtext and doing what they want is somehow a bad thing compared to pretending that they're being coerced and showing up to work anyway? Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense to me. People like Dave would rely on people like you who would show up to work thinking they need to when they really don't. There have been studies showing that people who think they need to work extra hours and spend more time at a job don't actually get ahead compared to other workers. Don't be that person who gets taken advantage of at a workplace because you're doing things you really don't need to be doing.
