  1. It is possible to test milk for pathogens, just like all raw products. Just like when eating raw oysters or raw fish for sushi you have to take extra steps make sure the fish and the final product is fresh and free of pathogens. Of course there's a cost to that.... In the case of milk you have to make sure the cows and the milk they produce are also healthy and pathogen free. It's really not some crazy conspiracy if you just think it through. The government can also say "all fish and oysters must be cooked" for safety reasons. They could also say lettuce and sprouts must be cooked, raw fruits and vegetables have probably been the source of most e-coli and salmonella outbreaks in the country over the years. But no one is going to think you're crazy for eating raw sprouts or lettuce.
