YouTube putting the "potential feelings" of content creators over viewers is a huge mistake. People go to YouTube and other platforms for the social experience. They should be ADDING more feedback options not taking them away. The dislike ratio tells me things like: 1. Is this a real video or something fake or trolling? 2. Is there something controversial or interesting about the video. 3. Is there something reprehensible about the content that needs to be highlighted. Many times content creators create videos based on the dislikes of other videos. Hiding this feature means this is no longer possible. Already this is effecting me negatively because I started watching a fake trailer for a show and I almost watched the whole thing before realized it was fake. The dislike ratio would have told me that right away. I shouldn't have to read a bunch of comments on a video to figure out if something is wrong with it or not. YouTube is opening the door to a lot of scams and fake content by getting rid of the dislike ratio.

@OmDahake That doesn't have anything to do with videos though. I don't think people care as much about dislikes on comments. But on certain videos this forces people to look at comments before watching a video just to see what the feedback is.

@NeroVingian40 You're making a lot of assumptions that depend on the type of video. A lot of times dislikes will get a video MORE views if it's a controversial topic or opinion. However if it is a faked video, such as a fake movie trailer, or fake footage of a UFO landing, or faked celebrity video of some kind, people will have no idea whether it's fake or not. Usually the dislikes would immediately tell a person that something is wrong here. Now people will have no idea. So YouTube is opening the door to a lot of fake videos that will get watched and spread around the internet. Only the upvoted comments will tell you that something is wrong with it. Of course most people don't look at comments until AFTER they've watched the video.

@jess_hinz Most people probably won't even use the dislike button if no one but the creator can see it. So it's not even good information for the creator at that point... So it's Extra Extra dumb.
2
@NeroVingian40 True, but it's a logical assumption since comments are for responding to the video content and most people don't like spoilers.
2
@NeroVingian40 No, I provided an argument for my assumptions and before that I provided an argument against your assumptions by providing examples were it isn't true. You could do the same or you can just complain.

@PhilMinecraft Who do you think is being "ratio-ed over and over" on YouTube? Who is not posting videos because of the dislike counter on YouTube? I've literally never heard of such a thing. Like I said, I think this only going to cause scam/fake videos to get more views.
1
@OmDahake Yes, I would agree. That's why I say they should be adding more social features and not taking them away. YouTube has a lot of valuable information that can make it more useful to people and more popular. Instead they want to hide it for themselves. If all they are is a place to stream videos then it becomes easier to replace with something else.
1
@PhilMinecraft I think you don't have any kind of proof or a real argument that people aren't posting videos because of a dislike counter. Simply saying "there are lots of YouTube accounts" isn't an argument, sorry. If anything it's proof of how popular and successful YouTube has gotten because of features like the dislike counter.

I don't understand what Microsoft is doing with the Duo other than making Android better for companies like Samsung... I don't see the motivation behind it at all. They aren't going to have mass appeal on the hardware because the Galaxy Fold 2 is better in just about every way. It seems mostly a software play, but they're sharing those improvements with Samsung and Google, so... why would a lot of people specifically choose the Duo at that price when the hardware is weak and the apps designed for it are immature? I keep saying over and over that they should have designed the Duo as a companion device for a phone.

@MadafakinRio So the change is okay because you only watch the channels you're subscribe to? So just screw everyone who is looking for new content or looking at videos that aren't in their subscriber list? Screw everyone who looks at content in their recommends and doesn't know whether that content is actually good or some faked crap? Right after the change I looked for a trailer that was just released and instead of the actual trailer I came across fake ones that I would have known were fake based on the dislike ratio.

@NeroVingian40 Because you were making assumptions and not considering the type of videos that I brought up. The reason why this discussion is going nowhere is because clearly you have problems handing conflict. You could address the counterpoints in my comment in some kind of meaningful discussion, but instead you spent the next 3 comments being triggered because I pointed out an assumption you were making. As if I personally insulted you by simply pointing out that your argument was flawed.

@NeroVingian40 The topic is/was whether removing the dislike counter was good or bad. You thought it was "good" based on one example. I thought it was bad based on other examples and you decided to flip out about it.... This has nothing to do with moving any goal posts and everything to do with you being irrationally pissed off at anyone bringing up a counter point. I don't know what your issues are, but obviously you don't handle disagreements well.
1
@NeroVingian40 All I did was disagree with the removing the dislike counter being "good". I have been the only one here bringing up that original topic while you continue to be having some kind of melt down about it. If someone politely disagreeing with you is too much for you to handle then I really don't know what to say. You have obvious issues.

@NeroVingian40 I did in my first reply to your comment... Where I specifically brought up the idea that the dislike ratio can have the opposite effect and lead more people to watch controversial videos. I also brought up more examples of how the dislike ratio is helpful. However instead of addressing my response and replying like a normal person you decided to melt down and go on an insane rant about moving goal posts....
