Vivianna spreading some misinformation here... Variants don't come from general "unvaccinated people" they come from immunocompromised people who get sick, because they are unable to fight off the virus it lives in their body for a long time and eventually mutates. We don't know specifically where Omicron came from, but the best guess is that it came from someone with HIV who could have been carrying the virus for a year because it is a variant of the original strain and not Delta. Vaccines don't stop transmission of Covid. They stop symptoms and hospitalizations with covid. People have been spreading this false idea that the vaccines stop transmission, but they don't, they only help with severe symptoms. Even if everyone in the world was vaccinated the virus would still transmit from person to person and can end up in an immunocompromised person and cause a mutation. There is also a significant "animal reservoir" where many animals wild and domesticated have been infected with the virus and can spread it back to humans.

@mischevious If you read my comment, you would see that I already said that vaccines don't stop the spread. However, my understanding is that new variants only incubate in people if they are immunocompromised or not.
