Marjorie Greene's statement wasn't anti-semitic either. It was just hyperbolic stupidity. It diminishes what people went through during the holocaust, but I wouldn't call it "anti-semitic". Similar to all the nonsense "slavery" comparisons that some right wingers made. All they're trying to do is pretend that they are some kind of victim when they're not.

@suzq2744 You would have to redefine words in order to pretend what she said was antisemitic. Someone could say something like: "That car accident I had was just like the attacks on 911". It's a bad comparison, but it doesn't make that person anti-American or anti-New Yorker If you have a specific argument for why making a bad comparison to the holocaust is specifically antisemitic I'll hear it, but it has to be something more than just being personally offended. If we go around calling everything racist and anti-semitic then those things will start to lose meaning and value. We can't do the same thing that the Right does to people like Ilhan Omar. We have to be better than that.

@suzq2744 Again defining something as antiemetic because it offends you isn't how it works.... Just like calling something racist that offends someone Black also isn't how it works. We can differentiate between a racist statement and an ignorant one because they are two different things. I am not deciding anything for a community. The community and individuals within it can be offended by anything they want. I'm saying we should not expand the definition of a word or concept to include "everything bad" because what will happen is that real antisemitism will start to lose all meaning.

@suzq2744 I opened the door to a conversation, but if you're going to just resort to ad hominems then there's really no point. I never once claimed to speak on behalf of any community.

@suzq2744 Resorting to ad hominems only means you don't have an actual argument. Please explain to me the trope of "comparing things to the holocaust" and how this is used to spread antisemitism. Getting angry and calling people names is not really productive.
