  1. It's pretty easy to have a "unifying message" over hating people... Humans have literally been doing that for thousands of years. Fear, hate, disgust over other groups come natural to us. Creating a unifying message over economic and social policies is pretty new, it's not something we've practiced as much as religion/spirituality and hating "the other".
