Its very different to punch someone once, who then falls over, fractures his skull and dies from the injury, as opposed to hitting someone repeatedly about the head and shoulders with a baseball bat. If it was the other way round, and Jacob (the white man) had baseball batted someone, and Ofill (the black man) had one punched someone, they would both have received the sentence relevant to their actions. If you can't see the difference, maybe you've been hit over the head too?

@tommyjr.150 I'm afraid you don't understand the law. It clearly differentiates between a single act that would not normally and reasonably be expected to result in the death of an individual, and a repeated act that would most definitely result in very serious injury and quite possibly death.
