  1. Luckily people more intelligent than yourself were in power in the UK & France prior to WW2. Hitler had declared since writing "Mein Kampf" in 1925 that his ultimate aim was to destroy the European USSR. So knowing that, why on earth would the UK and France declare war on BOTH nations who detested one another, but who had made a clearly TEMPORARY alliance of convenience in August 1939? No, it was FAR more intelligent to declare war on the clear and present danger (nazi Germany) and then leave the nazi/communist situation to simmer, knowing full well that they will eventually tear each other's throats out, as they did on 22nd June 1941. If we had declared war on BOTH the Germans AND the USSR, then not only would we have declared war on a nation that we had utterly NO way of attacking (the USSR), but we would have simply driven one of the world's foremost military powers (nazi Germany) deeper into an unbreakable pact with the world's greatest resource pool (The USSR). NOT a very smart thing to do.

  2. Yes, much like the armistice that Hitler forced upon Vichy France. A veritable "Pax Germanica" or "peace on nazi terms". Which would almost certainly have landed the UK with..... A puppet nazi government, a nazi supporting King Edward VIII restored to the throne, and the UK as a nazi satellite state. Extermination camps in the Cotswolds, Pennines & Scottish Highlands. SS Einsatzgruppen stalking the shires looking to find "undesirables" to summarily execute. All UK males of working age being deported to the reich to be slaved to death in nazi armaments factories or infrastructure projects. Search out and have a read about a very nice gentleman called Dr Franz Six, and see what plans he came up with for the UK after he was directed by Reinhard Heydrich (head of all nazi security forces) to prepare a "police action" had the Germans forced Britain's surrender. It makes very interesting reading. And there was you thinking that seeking an armistice with Hitler in 1940 would have left us today with a Britain full of Rose cottages, warm beer, bar skittles, Morris dancers & village cricket.

The immediate & direct knocking out of the British Isles in 1940 may not have helped Hitler in the long run, in the same way that the nazis originally chose NOT to occupy the whole of the French mainland, but instead retained a puppet French "rump" to prevent the seccession of the rest of France's colonies in North Africa and SE Asia. That tactic paid off by the puppet Vichy French regime permitting the Japanese Imperial army to occupy Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos prior to its strike against western interests in SE Asia. Likewise If Britain had been militarily occupied, then it would likely have meant the fragmentation and probable dissolution of the "British Empire". It would benefit Germany more in the longrun to keep a weakened Britain "on the back burner" while he dealt with the USSR, and then later convince the British into the complete hopelessness of their situation within Europe, and then bring them, and their empire, into line with the nazi's ongoing "world view".
