Am I completely missing the point? Isn't "Jewishness" purely defined on a RELIGIOUS basis? Of being of the Jewish faith? Where does the idea of "race" come into it at all? If I was born in Israel to Christian / Muslim / Buddhist / "your religion here" parents I wouldn't be "Jewish" just as a person in Britain born and raised in the Jewish faith could be reasonably defined as a "British" or even "European" Jew? I'm not an expert (I'm sure that's self evident) but are there black skinned Jews in the world? Can gentiles "convert" to Judaism as in the Catholic church? or must you be born of existing Jewish descent? Could a black Angolan catholic convert and be accepted into the Jewish faith and be an Angolan Jew? A cursory internet search suggests that you can convert to Judaism, that would indicate to me that it is NOTHING at all to do with "race", as I cannot "convert" to become an Australian Aborigine or Russian Tatar? My questions are sincere even if my understanding of the subject matter is of a low order.
