  7. Chamberlain, a man who strove right through the 1930s to avoid another global blood letting, has been treated shabbily by history. He and Stanley Baldwin both knew what was coming and navigated Britain though post depression 30s while facing off against a maniacal psychopath in Germany. Luckily for us, they put what could be afforded into the defence of Britain, and did all the "heavy lifting" ready for Churchill to take all the plaudits.

  12.  @FerreusNRG  Did Great Britain have one? The majority of the regular British army in 1939 was distributed around its colonies on "policing" duties. The oft criticised lack of military action by Britain in support of Poland's fight against Germany is explained by that very fact, that Britain was largely unmoblised for a European land war in Sept 1939. My own father and his two Brothers who were all in their late teens / early twenties in 1939, only received their "call up papers" in Jan/Feb 1940.

The peacetime regular army of Great Britain in 1939 numbered 225,000, which was mostly dispersed across an empire which covered 30% of the earth's landmass. The peacetime regular army of the United States in 1939 numbered 189,839, the vast majority of which was based within the "lower 48".

  15.  @FerreusNRG  No it didn't. 900,000 is the figure once Britain's "territorials" had been mobilised, roughly the British equivalent of the US National Guard. As opposed to its "full time" standing army (known as the "regulars") which numbered 225,000. Britain was known for having a relatively weak army, even at the begining of the first world war, when the British empire was at its zenith, Kaiser Wilhelm II was notoriously reported to have called the original BEF (or British Expeditionary Force which was composed of the "regulars", and which was effectively destroyed during the first year of WW1) the "contemptible LITTLE army".

Because of course he was putting all his hopes on being left to expand the nazi empire EASTWARDS in peace, assimilate his new found conquests with their collective economies and resources, further build up his military power and THEN conquer Britain & France. Luckily for us all today the British and French were not prepared to allow Hitler to get his way. Not confronting Hitler in 1939 would have resulted with Britain by the mid 1940s onwards having: A puppet nazi government, with a nazi supporting King Edward VIII restored to the throne. Extermination camps in the Cotswolds, Pennines & Scottish Highlands. SS Einsatzgruppen stalking the shires looking to find "undesirables" to summarily execute. All UK males of working age being deported to the reich to be slaved to death in nazi armaments factories or infrastructure projects. And now, slimy nazi fanbois want the uninformed to think that letting Hitler conduct his plans undisturbed would mean that we would have a Britain today filled with Rose cottages, warm beer, bar skittles & village cricket. As it is, for all its faults today, YOU live in a country where you are free to express your opinions, no matter how uninformed they are and NOT have to worry about being executed for it. How utterly devious those people are, people with greater awareness of the situation don't fall for their nazi apologist nonsense.
