ARPANET was a small network of "country lanes" connecting a few "villages" together, the Internet was a joint international effort to build "superhighways" that connected countries together and was the result of effort by MANY different nations, and finally the "world wide web" or the "highway code" that enabled the efficient usage of that "superhighway network" was a British invention.

  6. It's a great leveller. During the plandemic BS and society being pushed into craziness I also entered the "second phase of life". Just to go out into my garden late on a clear night..... lie on the grass, and look at the stars and the milky way, let the ground beneath you and your surroundings fall out of your sight, and simply let the realisation slowly sink in.... of just how insignificant the WHOLE of human society is in that endless immensity, if we all just disappeared in the blink of an eye everything else in the cosmos would carry on unperturbed. I find it a great settler of the mind. Don't let the shit in life overwhelm you. Well done Louis.

This is typed on a 12 year old laptop happily running windows 7 (though windows 10 can also be effectively stopped from doing all its spying BS too) on a locked down and modified version of "firefox" browser to block the majority of the data mining that now goes on on the internet. Once its setup it ticks along very ably.... but it does require a change in user "mindset" from automatically doing what the nice man at Samsung et al tells you to do.

But then again I play 10-15 year old games.... FAR more fun and less manipulated by the software producers than modern day "AAA" releases.

  22. As has been the case with capitalism for the last 70 years a named "Brand" is just that... a NAME. It's sole purpose is to now generate customer loyalty!!! Do people think that a company that made items 60 years ago and is still a "brandname" today means that its the same company and management, with the same workforce working in the same factory with the same overriding business ethos? Some companies DO remain owned by the same family who founded them, and management has passed down through the generations... but they are few and far between. The truth that most people seem completely unaware of is that new companies start out with the best of intentions, and go the "extra mile" to make products of high quality with good customer service. If they're lucky and resolute, they will build up a firm customer base, and a great brand reputation. What then happens is that as their brand profile increases they come to the attention of "bigger fish" in the market, who then BUY THEM OUT, and will then trade on the loyalty that the brand name has built up for itself, while simultaneously cutting costs (usually at the expense of quality and service) to maximise their profits. That is EXACTLY what has happened with EVGA.

For the FIRST time in my life, in a temporary moment of madness, I just bought a "google play" digital code via paypal UK to put some cash into my google android UK account. two or three clicks on Paypal, and BOOM !!! The moneys gone from my account and there's my code. It's now been THREE days of trying to get the fecktw@ts at google to accept my code.... every time I try to redeem it....Error Code:PRS-PGCSEFC-01. NOTHING further. I go through their circuitous "support links" and get a very helpful "there is a problem with your code" (which there isn't because when I first type the code in, it helpfully says "you are about to add £15 to your google account" (which is correct). Google now want my address, date of birth, inside leg measurement, length of penis (when erect) and the tyre pressure in my rear offside tyre. F@CK SAKE !!!! WHY did I give these cnuts money for the FIRST time in my life ARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! PS. FUTO is downloaded (even before your video finished and its looking REALLY good for the moment)... I'll give it a couple of weeks and IF I get the digital code redeemed I'll certainly pay for it. Great stuff... more PLEASE !!!

  48. Like the good old fashioned working class boy that I am, I was brought up with a healthy dread of debt. Don't spend what you haven't got.... live within your means... that sort of thing. For a few decades I seemed all alone when it felt that all around me people were hooked on easy credit, buy now pay forever type of shit. It's a lovely warm personal glow you have inside to be in late middle years having worked hard to have a nice house, nice car and NO DEBT after years of "make do and mend" such as when I had nearly 70% of my monthly income going out on just my mortgage in the mid 90s. /smug mode. Of course its good to have a maxed out credit score (for a really rainy day) and a couple of no charge credit cards to do the old "0% balance transfer" and to have the security of the UK's Sect 75 Consumer Credit Act protection, but beyond that they're a fool's game.
