A talented teacher vs "I will have my salary tomorrow..." one ;-)

@Migoyan Agree! And military still use ADA ;-)

@abdjahdoiahdoai Plain "C" would be a smarter idea ;-) * Julia needs a VM - RAM and CPU cycles wasted on a weak hardware. * C++ has OOP - potential RAM and CPU cycles wasted on a weak hardware.
2
You mean - modern banking software? ;-)
2
It is! Same with COBOL (high salary jobs in writing banking software)
2
Well... Fortran is a fully featured language so you could do whatever in it. You would just have to write a lot of libraries yourself, because it's not very popular (in general). He is most likely lying tho ;-)
2
Well... * Learn 1-2 languages properly * Read about some interesting language * Find a tutorial on it * Poke around and write some small programs * DONE - you know another language on a very basic level ;-)
2
Old languages have weird syntax. COBOL and BASIC is not better than this ;-)
2
Oof! I tried it a few years ago and it was "a more confusing C++"
2
Oh! Today, programming is much more "comfy" and "hip". And that's a good thing! ;-)
2
I just have to read why ;-) Yep - very polite!
2
COBOL, on the other hand... (banks) ;-)
1
It was created for that. Plus - it's a tradition. Or even a myth. Just like "Java is good for beginners", "Python is very slow" or "Pascal is a good first language to learn" :-)
1
That's how "do-while" loops work in general ;-) You need "while-do" loop instead (for your need)
1
COBOL is still can get you a job in banking software with a big salary ;-)
1
@science_trip True! That's why I like Youtube much more than just some offline courses ;-)
1
Because of weird endings for functions, like "function end." - that was VERY popular in the 1950-1960
1
"o one uses it but colleges still teach it for some reason" - Universities is a nutshell :-)
1
Yep - modern banking software ;-)
1
"Julia" wants to say something ;-)
1
I'm not a Python developer but I would say: Debatable
1
Kali is an Linux-based OS for... penetration testing ;-)
1
True ;-) But the last update for Fortran was in 2018
1
Try Blender ;-)
1
I think 10 would suffice ;-)
1
Lazarus is an free and Open Source IDE for writing programs in Object Pascal :-)
1
You just have bad teachers ;-) Like most of us (including me)
1
Your English is pretty clean ;-)
1
Only C for low level ;-)
1
Oof!
1
Don't assume that ;-) Give me a timecode and I'll explain (I never programmed in FORTRAN before)
1
@DagothDaddy ;-)

As a C# developer I should say: Well... it depends on the task ;-) C# is great at writing Windows applications but bad at writing drivers, very fast and memory hungry code (game engines. And no - Unity itself is NOT written in C#!). On Android, Kotlin is more preferable. Right tools for right job ;-)
1
@mr.bigdick7692 Oh! Than that part about Unity itself was written in C++ and only scripting is in C# was useful for you ;-) Every C# calls in Unity leads to native binary library written in C++ for speed and efficiency. C# is more pleasant to write than C++, so take best of both worlds.
1
It... doesn't. You just like it more ;-)
