@ramjet8778 I agree with you. What Rees Mogg doesn't know about politics and its history ain't worth knowing. But the problem is not with Mogg's mind. It's his soul - or rather his lack of anything even vaguely resembling a soul. This man is a walking moral vacuum. He is a dark star, a black hole, of a man. He's better than everybody else (looking from his perspective) and he knows it. He owns not one penny-pinch of humility or modesty. Mogg's performance on Channel 4 tonight was first-class, the stuff of legend. But it was all in the service of nothing, for a Prime Minister who believes in nothing, who values nothing. Except his own selfish ambition and greed.

@danielwhite2231 Except for 'moral' superiority and sanctimony. I think this used to be called Muscular Christianity.

@timothyharris4708 I think Mogg is intelligent, as far as a good education, knowledge and insight go; the fact that most people, including me, find him odious doesn't change that fact, I think. Although his intelligence is probably weakened by his insincerity, as you say. As for 'genuine thinking' - I'm not sure what that means exactly. As for how he speaks: he has a particular RP or upper-class accent. I don't judge people on how they look or speak. Some people are good, some are bad. That's all. As for my comment 'the stuff of legend' - I think I was just amazed and impressed at the sheer effrontery and brazon cheek the man displayed. I wasn't exactly paying Mogg a compliment.

@stephenetridge2584 ' intellectual acumen' and 'unctuously proclaim' is going a bit far. It's clear from what I said I consider Rees Mogg to be reasonably well-educated and moderately intelligent - nothing more. I don't even like the man: he's snobby, insincere, heartless and boring. But I do find him, sometimes, cruelly quick-witted, absurdly incongruous and distractingly humorous. Mogg is like a Punch and Judy Show: eminently British, thoroughly wicked and disreputable - and impossible not to gawp at with horror and laughter in equal measure. 'a stupid person (sic) idea of a smart person' does Mogg a disservice, whilst at the same time not coming even close to delineating the imperfections that collect around his character.

@whitenuttergoku7310 Rees Mogg can't really control how he looks and speaks. He's an accident of destiny, fate, whatever - like we all are.
