  1. This was Ms. Truss's 'Greg Stillson' moment, I'm afraid. Her reaction was human enough (understandable surprise and shock) but she just didn't move fast enough. Those two or three frozen seconds of confused inaction were the killer. They made her look weak and indecisive - as if she doesn't really care that much about other people (other women, in this case) and their immediate welfare. I'm probably reading slightly too much into it but small stuff like this can often matter in a tight leadership race. It's a shame really because Liz 'where's-the-door' Truss is the gift that keeps on giving...

  2.  @claudioricci1  I'd maybe give Ms Truss the benefit of the doubt, on reflection. Being a politician is one of those jobs where MPs do have to think about their own and their families' security and safety on a daily basis: recent cases of MPs being killed just doing their jobs speak for themselves. I think it was probably simple and genuine shock/surprise that caused her to hesitate for so long. Maybe it just felt longer because it was muted visuals on a live TV broadcast: the television equivalent of 'dead air.' Who knows? I'm sure the RWP will applaud her evident 'calmness' and 'sangfroid' in 'the face of danger and uncertainty.'...the spinners are spinning as we speak...
