@NickZhukov , Russia caused the unrest. It has been for years, well before the Ukrainian Maidan Revolution. It’s a tactic Russia has used throughout its history. In addition to funding and arming the pro-Russian separatists, Putin sent in his “little green men” to fight direct. And, yes, he had no problem with killing innocent people in order to fan the flames. I remember watching an interview (it was a CBS News report, I believe) with two such Russian soldiers that were captured. They were both injured and left behind by the others, got caught and were being treated for their injuries. While they were not very forthcoming with much details, they did admit they were Russian, and sent in to Donbas by Russia to fight with separatists. Anyways, the newly-elected president had run on the promise of getting Ukraine into the EU, so when he completely flipped his position and broke his promise after the election it was understandable as to why the Maidan Revolution happened. Of course, the Russian propaganda says Russia did absolutely nothing and that the revolution was a coup created and assisted by the U.S. The U.S. viewed it as a civil war within Ukraine and, even though we were rooting for one side, we were staying out it. However, we saw Russia directly meddling by assisting the other side. A few months later, when Russia walked in took Crimea, lots of Americans thought that was wrong, but we all pretty much agreed we should support Ukrainian independence in ways short of getting involved militarily, such as sanctioning Russia. Which we did. Ukraine said it was just a matter of time before Russia would strike again, and we agreed. But most of Europe became too reliant on Russian gas and didn’t believe Russia would advance any further as it got the warm water ports it wanted and needed by taking Crimea. But Russia struck again. And the collective West is simply providing arms and training to Ukraine, just like Russia had supported the pro-Russian separatists. The only difference is that we are doing it openly.
