  1. I'm sad seeing stuff like this. I LOVE California and LOVED living there the 2 times in my life I got the chance. The first attempt, I was the problem, and I left for "home" after 5 months. The second time, well I was well armed to handle the situation and stayed 2 years before the family reason I moved changed and I was no longer needed IN California. Costs way back in 2010 were "reasonable" now...but not to me back then. So I came back to Texas. No regrets...been a home owner for 12 years, love my life here and I may move in the future, but it will be to another place in Texas. If you're in California now? Unless you make LOTS and LOTS of money....get out now, but do NOT come to Texas, we're closed. LOL

  2. Are these numbers from the year 2000? $600k to retire on in Texas? Where? Using the 4% rule and your silly $20k from SS, I'd get what $44k? Sure, only a percentage of that would be taxable...but still, no way would it allow me to live where I'm at. Yes, I realize that the $44k would be mostly take home, but even then it doesn't cut it. I'd have to sell my house and move in with someone, rent a room. Not even sure I could afford that.
