  1. Just went through the "changing insurance companies". My last company, said because I live in Texas, I need "Enhanced Mexico coverage" and that all companies in Texas charge it. I live about 400 miles from the Mexico border and I NEVER go there. This charge was new in 2023 with my old company. Turns out, they lied. No such thing, it was because of the package I was sold, but no one at my "independent" agency said anything about a package level. Yeah. Here was their renewal percentage hike for 2024/2025. 50% on the car. 60% on the home policy. When I tried to adjust things, like increase my deductible...the rate barely moved. I was happy to fire them. What was sad is...for the previous 5 years? It really seemed like they were finding me the lowest rates. But for this year...NOPE. Don't be loyal!! Check multiple agents/companies....and if an agent is "captive"....give them a shot. I was surprised the lowest numbers this year actually came from a "captive" agent. Meaning they only sell one company's insurance.
