Loyalty. I tried that. Worked for 3 3/4 years, then I was asked to leave with 2500 of my friends. The "average" number of jobs is 12, I'm already on 15 and while I hope it's the last, it's a contract...so who knows. I am loyal to knowing my job and loyal to myself. That "40 year" mark for me? It's next year, 2025. Will I retire? Sure, at some point. But I love my job and where I work, so unless something better that is solid comes along, I'll stay....if they ask me to leave...I'll find something new. Even if that means retraining to do it. Old dogs CAN and DO learn new tricks. So for those reading, be loyal to yourself and your knowledge. Remind any employer/prospect that you can easily learn new things and your resume should reflect that. Be confident and when someone says "you're too old, too qualified, too costly", let them know that things have a price, but it's always negotiable.

This is when I LOVE the body cameras and dash cameras in cruisers. I hope the Detective has HIS body camera on as well. More to my point, a friend and I were talking about this a few months back. She is African-American, I am Irish-American...and we got on to the subject of one of these stops. She explained to her how growing up, she was told "Stay away from the Police, they aren't here to help and NEVER get pulled over (once she was driving)! She told me even now, after 50+ years, she's still afraid of the Police. She mentioned she's been pulled over at least 10 times because of her car or the area she was driving or maybe both. Being a more successful person, she had a nice car, but she noticed the Police didn't think she should be driving a 2 year old Toyota. Talk about an eye opener for me. These "officers" need to be written up and fired, then every new recruit needs to be shown the stop video. "You act like this at ANY point in your career, you will be fired and possibly have charges". but I'm not in charge...probably good I'm not. When I get pulled over, I make sure the window is down, interior light on (night), hands ON steering wheel and the vehicle is OFF. I also have a dashcam. But I was NEVER worried for my safety when pulled over. That's just WRONG!

Portland, Maine....great place if you don't mind lots of snow. I worked/sorta lived in South Portland, Maine (yes, it's another city nextdoor) for a few months back in 2005. Really enjoyed it until they sent my job to Singapore...without me. haha. Seriously, Portland is great. Lots of harbor islands to explore as well, and if you need a laugh, Bob Marley, the comedian, not the singer or his Dad, lives there. Always fun to see Uncle Bobby do his thing. I won't tell you how great the rest of the state is, cause I'm keeping that to myself. Annual temporary resident of Maine for 2 weeks. haha.

Been watching/listening for a little over 6 months now Cash....and in that time, your videos have gone from "informative and nice" to who knows what he's going to do next....and that, is the way to "vlog". When they don't know what is coming, and when it gets there, they think...hey that was fun/cool/informative and maybe silly? Love it!
If I was a landlord in NYC, of course I'd have you be the agent...why? Cause I like keeping small business going....and you're fun, crazy, and deserve the shot. Sadly, if I did rent something out, it would be here in Texas, where $1700 can easily get you a 2 and maybe 3 bedroom apartment....and in some areas...a 3-4 bedroom house.

I guess I've been very lucky for the most part since 2008, when I went remote for my job for the first time, and been that way for most of the past 14 years. Occasionally there have been "you NEED to come to the office 5 days a week" orders...but when managers change, so do their orders. Or if you changed jobs. In my current job, I was hired remotely as a 100% remote worker back in May 2021. My actual office is over 1200 miles away. I have never met my co-workers/manager in person. There is a company office 20 minutes from my home, but I've never been asked to go there, except during the initial hiring process. So what perk would get me back into the office full time? NO perk. I probably won't ever work in an office full time again in my career. My time is too valuable at this point in my life (35+ years in to my career) to give it up sitting in my car, or at someone elses desk/office. Oh yeah, I don't get vacation (contractor), so my vacation is work remotely....I can spend a month somewhere else (I do inform my manager) and as long as I have internet, I can work. Did I mention it's a 4 day week? Yeah, life is good!

Love the list! Love it even more I've been to ALL of these on part 2. Salem is GREAT! Don't be afraid of the ghosts or witches...just the high school mascot (Salem Witch of course).Haha,
Yeah, my Salem bias is showing, lived there for a year back in the 1980's...it was expensive then too. Awesome to see some love to Portland, Maine, Flagstaff, Arizona and Reno, Nevada!!
Didn't know that cool bit about the naming of Portland, Oregon. Boston, Oregon....nope, doesn't sound right. Neither does New Boston, Texas a couple hundred miles from me now.
And it's Masshole, not A Hole.....ok maybe they are the same, but Masshole identifies where the Ahole is from. Haha, says this native Masshole.

Cool list! Sometimes, through accidents, end of life cycle and neglect, cars can become "rare". Chrysler made maybe 44,000 Sebring Convertibles in 2001. Of those, maybe 20% were Limited models, so now we are at 8800. Of those maybe 30% were Stone White, down to 2540 and of those, maybe 80% were cream/royal blue interior. So now about 2000 cars. Factor in the other stuff I already mentioned and there might be less than 1000 of these specific cars around today. I have one in my garage, bought new and still looks/drives like it did 20 years ago, except it's got 120k miles on it now. I didn't expect to own a "rare" car. I rarely see a 2001 Sebring Convertible anywhere (unless at the Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle, PA), forget about the Limited....used to see these cars all the time years ago, especially here in Texas and Florida (rental car convertible heaven). My "rare" car doesn't mean $$$$ LOL

This brings up a good thing to do. DON'T TALK TO THE POLICE! When pulled over, hand them documentation, etc. Unless your state/country REQUIRES a "field sobriety test", you do NOT have to do those. As for that field breathalyzer? Again, You do NOT have to do that either. Politely inform the Officer you decline to answer any questions and ask for any paperwork he/she pulled you over for. Once that is done, ask if you are free to go? This Officer didn't do anything wrong as they police can operate this way, but if you refuse to do all those things he asked you to do, there is NO case. He writes up the high beams issue and you're done. On that note, the arrest? Total BOGUS IMO. No, I'm not a lawyer, but I know a few. Officers operating that way need to change. He was nervous for sure, as is MOST of us when we get pulled over. I expect he will win his case, and hopefully this changes somethings.

This has been a thing around here in the Dallas area, not for the deposit, since there isn't one, but just the aluminum value. The deal is, if it's in a property of container, then it's stealing because that container is owned by the company or municipality picking up the recycling. If/when I see someone in the back alley around here doing that, I nicely ask them to move along, before I take a picture and contact the police. Never do this in front of your own house/place. LOL
Yes, a few of them have told me where to go, so I snapped a pic of them doing their thing, and the truck's license plate...forwarded it on to the police, so they have a record of it. Be nice until it's time to not be nice.

Normally, I'd suggest no one move to Cambria...cause it stinks, you won't like it, etc...but I don't have to do that. Housing, fuel, and other costs will keep most people from moving there...cause as Briggs mentioned...unless you want to buy Nit Wit Ridge...and you don't, it's wicked expensive. Is it a great place? Yep, it is. Bring your high paying job(s)...and don't let that "current tax amount" fool you on Zillow....that's for the current owner, you'll be paying taxes on your sale price...which will be MUCH more. Welcome to California!
Mariposa? Don't go there, it sucks... LOL Love the Happy Burger Diner. Truckee? Like Cambria, but worse on the expensive side. I love Truckee!!

Well this is a side of it I never saw/heard of, and I'm sure most people didn't. I bought a new minivan on July 4th, 2009. Usually, July 4th is a BIG car sell day/weekend....but for whatever reason, I pretty much had Folsom Dodge in Folsom, California all to myself. Arrived on the lot about 4 pm, and by 7:30 pm, I was driving home in my 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that I paid UNDER $20k for. No trade in, so it wasn't a direct Cash for Clunkers deal...but that program definitely had an impact. Still have no idea why I was all alone at this dealer on a typical BIG selling day (July 4th, 2009 was a Saturday, btw). Anyways...great story Bob...well to listen to, not for your business.

I've run into this shared name issue, but it wasn't with the police, it was with Southwest Airlines. I was trying to fly from Manchester, NH to Orlando, FL and my girlfriend booked the tickets on Southwest, which I had never flown before. She could not check me in online, so we tried it at the ticket counter and the agent said "I cannot let you fly, you are on the "TSA No Fly List". Well this was interesting, because I had just flown round trip the month before to Sacramento from Boston on American. After pushing them to investigate it, they found that the person who was on the list, lived over 100 miles away from where I was. That person was also in their late 50's (I was in my 30's). I was finally allowed to fly after finding all this out. Like you said...check the details!! I hope Mr. Brown gets what he's asking for and those officers are fired. BTW...I've flown Southwest now many times since that incident in 2005, never been questioned again.

I think you nailed most of these Briggs. That last one for sure. I've only got 2 years in for college. Technically an "Associates Degree", but the school I went to doesn't do 2 year degrees. Anyways...that other 2 years you spend in college (really the first 2) is mostly fluff and NOT needed. Do I really need to know how to recognize a Gregorian chant song? NO, but that is a skill I picked up in college. How nice. Oh yeah, I work in the IT world and have for 37 years now. My job has "disappeared" at least 5 times, meaning it was the job that for fired/laid off, not me, but because I was in it, I had to find something else, and I did. If you had told me from 30 years ago what I do now, I would have laughed and said NO WAY! You can't work in India, China, Malaysia, New Jersey and the UK in one shift without being there!! Yes young itsnotme07, you can. LOL

No, I wouldn't move to NYC, even if I win the lottery with a big B on the total. I've already done my "NYC" time, spent 2 years working in East Rutherford, NJ. I know it's not the same, but for me, as a suburb guy from Boston, it worked. What might happen? People start ditching NYC in droves more than coming in. if/when that happens, rents will drop, but will it be in our lives? I don't think so. For me, Boston got kinda crazy in the 90's, so I left for Dallas. Great move for me. Still here almost 30 years later. But I'm also at that point...do I stay and over pay or do I relocate and buy a cheaper place? Albeit cash this time after selling my house. Good luck Cash! Hope you can stay, but wherever you go, you'll be successful!

Here is what Sgt Cockrell didn't mention: The following Texas counties require emissions testing: Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis and Williamson. If you reside in any of these counties, you still need annual emissions testing. The safety part falls on YOU to do and issues noticed during the emissions testing will be mentioned, but will not cause you a failure.

This isn't just a Canada problem, seems to occur all over the world. I don't understand the issue. If you have valid credentials from another country, and are currently licensed there, then maybe have a test to take, a fee to pay and prove your education to go with it. If I move to Canada, my US drivers license is valid for up to 90 days until I have to convert it to a Canadian drivers license. The process is actually fairly simple, as it should be. Yes, I get that driving and being a surgeon are NOT the same, but tracking credentials and proving ability shouldn't be that difficult. I've never lived in Canada, so I don't fully understand the system there...but it does seem to me there are lots more "controls" around some things and zero around others "Contractors stealing from homeowners, rental car companies overcharging, etc"...and the people responsible for managing/controlling those things say "We are doing what we can."....but not if it takes 16 months or more to get/convert a medical license. Why doesn't she just enroll in medical school in Canada? Might be shorter.

When I'm presented with one of those tablets and the "tip brigade of boxes", if it's a service I normally would tip for, I do. Usually 20% or more. Especially if I know that server or technician or whatever person is making "less" to start. If I see one in another situation...like the doctor, and I HAVE seen it. I make sure NO tip is added. Why? Because people working there should be getting a livable wage. If I pickup at a restaurant instead of sit down, I'll also usually tip, because I decided not to eat there, but that server should still get paid. Yes, it's probably less of a tip on takeout than sit down. I'm not a fan of the "tip before service" thing, but I also wonder when I see it (Amazon Fresh deliveries), will that person do a good job if I don't tip them. I don't tip my UPS/FedEx drivers....basically the same job. What really needs to happen is, companies/employers need to pay above the minimum wage so people can afford to live on it. Sure, we'll ALL pay for that, but I don't mind it. Tipping goes away and so does the crap of "They tipped more than you did". Which is silly.

Thanks for the laugh, AGAIN. Nice to see recycling hit the automotive industry. HA! Now, on to the subject. I've purchased 3 "program cars". 1st one, was a "executive car" for Chrysler...yeah, right. Anyways, was a great car. The next 2, Hertz and Avis. I've actually worked at Avis in the Boston zone, they do actually pull cars out of service for regular maintenance even during the "peak season". Now...if you need a specific type of vehicle and it's in the service line...you are right on, they pull that vehicle and rent it, before it's serviced. On to my 2 rental car purchases. I knew they were rental cars before. Hertz nicely doesn't hide their holding company name. Hertz Global Holdings. So on the paperwork, you know it's a Hertz car. Avis/Budget on the other hand, uses a company called PV Holding. So unless you know to look for it, it could just be a company that leased it or whatever. Anyways...funny stuff as always Steve!! I agree..buyer beware on rentals. My 3 cars were all awesome. For the right price, it's worth it. Don't buy directly from the rental car company.

I was hoping you would see this and make a video. First, bravo to Brittany for recording it. It's a sucky situation and she handled it very well. Uploading it? Not so sure I'd have done that. I hope she's able to find new employment. Listening to the call, these two on the other end had no clue what they were doing. Watch the movie "Up in the Air" from 2009, George Clooney and Anna Kendrick. "Why are they being let go?" Never ask that, you don't care. But the reality is, the person's manager should have been on this call so she could direct her questions to them, not the consultants hired to let Brittany go. I think this is WORSE than the Bob's from Office Space, that was a movie, this is REAL and these two....I get they don't want to give answers, even if they have them, to limit legal blowback - quote from Up in the Air.

I've had the pleasure of being selected for jury duty in three states. Massachusetts, Texas, and California. I never saw the courthouse in California, as they had an automated system you called in everyday, put in your juror id, and they told you if they needed you. 5 days of calls, never needed me. Massachusetts and Texas...I went through the process but was never selected for a trial. Only in Texas did I even make it to a courtroom for voir dire, and I was never questioned as they got their jurors before they got to me. I'd love to sit on a trial one of these days as a juror, for just those reasons you said..."I'd hope that if I needed a jury, someone would show up". Recently, the county I live in here in Texas went to the same automated system as California. So now's it's a simple call in less than 12 hours before your arrive time, if they don't need you, you don't go. Big bucks here in Texas now, $6 for day 1, $40/day after.

Great list! Only done 1 of them, Highway 1 in California. Heading to Cambria next month for a little Highway 1 time over a weekend. If you do this trip, have a convertible and go SOUTH. I know Briggs mentioned going north from LA, and nothing wrong with that, but the best views/stops, etc are on the southbound side. First time I did Highway 1, way back in 1990. I'd rented a Ford Thunderbird and drove up to Mendocino via Clearlake, then got on Highway 1 and went south to LA. Yes, it took 5 days, but wow was I hooked! As I mentioned....going to Cambria next month. The best parts of Highway 1? between Carmel and Morro Bay, IMO. If you can take the time and do ALL of it, definitely do it in a convertible!!
Planning some of those Amtrak trips soon. Amtrak version of Highway 1...Coast Starlight from LA to Emeryville, CA or the reverse.

The new one does have one thing different from the 1990 model, it's available NEW in the US, unlike the 1990 version, which you had to wait 25 years to get. Course, I "get" why you'd want to have one. Exclusivity, FAST (for 1990), and driving something "unique". Same reasons I keep my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC around....not many of them, it's kinda fast (for 1997) and it's "unique". Plus it looks and drives great (like your 1990 GT-R), so why not drive it? Ok, but seriously, which car one the comparison?

Great analogy with SiriusXM! A few years ago I bought a used Pioneer XM tuner on eBay for my Pioneer head unit to install in my car. I figured the XM tuner was NOT active, so I'd have to call SiriusXM to activate it, but once plugged into power and connected, it was already active, most likely either the previous owner didn't disconnect it from their account or it had a lifetime subscription. I called SiriusXM to add it to my account and they mentioned it had a lifetime subscription. They then said that the license on that goes with the tuner, so since I now owned it and could prove the purchase, I was entitled to it since they were already paid. This info comes in handy if your SiriusXM tuner ever fails, as if you buy a new one, you need to buy yet another lifetime subscription, they will NOT transfer it from one tuner to another. If Tesla says EAP/FSD is a subscription service (It's NOT, IMO), then they can do this similar to shutting off illegal SiriusXM subscriptions. I think what Tesla did was pretty shady and maybe a violation of something somewhere, being that they did not own the car any longer. I'm not a lawyer though. haha.

As a former large rental car employee (not Hertz), I can say that cars at their maintenance yards or listed at the maintenance yard would possibly be easier because if they need work, waiting on parts, just need regular service, the cars aren't available in the system and it's not unusual for them to sit for up to weeks at a time (waiting on parts, body shops, etc). So, if you somehow got those cars out, you could try that. Many times during my shifts, I was told to grab a few people and a car from the service line and that car might be driven 500 miles that day doing long trips to bring cars back to the city fleet yard. It also means that car, which would be checked out to my employee id, maybe doesn't come back for whatever reason...but 24 cars? No way, he had someone else he was working with. If the car doesn't come back, the employee should need to file a report on where they dropped the car. I will mention my time there was 1985 to 1996...before all the cool hand held stuff that most "crews" working for them get now, so they can just scan the car/employee id, input where/what they are doing and go. A lot harder to avoid that computer scan now.

Nice job explaining why the windows were up. I hate seeing people ride around with a convertible top down and the windows up. What's the point? It's a convertible, there will be wind....enjoy it!!
Yeah, this car was pathetic after finding out what they did with the engine, trunk, and ride. I wasn't impressed...but when this came out, my 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited, only $5k less than the Thunderbird....wasn't even close, even now, 18 years later, my 01 Limited is WAY better than those 2002-2005 Thunderbirds, and I've owned previous year Thunderbirds. I miss my 1995 LX with the 4.6L v8....gotta get one of those. haha.

Anytime you leave your home, you are "unsafe" in your security. the percentages go up and down, depending on where, when, who, why, weather, etc. For me? 6 ft BIG guy....I'm pretty safe by myself....but you know I'm not chasing after you, etc. If I'm with others, I'm a bit more cautious even, because it's not just me that I'm trying to keep safe. I haven't been to NYC since 2007...so my knowledge of the safety on the subway, which I had no issues coming in from Long Island to see a Mets game. We just need to be better aware of our surroundings and the time of day/who we are with, etc. Plus don't bury your head in your phone....I do not use my phone while on public transit....to me, that's asking for someone to come take it. Course I like to talk and look at scenery out the windows. haha. Thanks for the report Cash!
