Why is it that when socialists want to mitigate and put safe guards against their perceived evils of capitalism, it's guardrails and protection... but when Americans want to mitigate and put safe guards against their perceived evils of government power, it's "baking distrust into the system"? I call bullshit. Calling it baking distrust into the system isn't fair or accurate. Let's say you didn't do that. what would that look like? It relies on trusting? Then that leaves things open to be abused or overpowered by the entities you trust. That isn't a trust based system, that's simply an insecure system. It isn't "baking distrust into the system", it's plugging up ways the system can be gamed, just like how your computer has a password for logging in. It's putting in guardrails against excessive power abuse. That is simply objectively true, just like how locking your house isn't "distrust baked into the architecture", but simply preventing against a very real possibility of theft or incursion. This isn't ideological, it's simple mundane objective fact. Having security measures is common sense, and it is complete spin to call it "distrust-based"
