Both are authoritarian collectivists. Both believe in a binary struggle. Both want their side to be the dictatorship of everyone. Each simply picks opposite sides of that struggle, which is why they think they're opposites, but actually not. It's just like how calvinists and baptists believe in opposite beliefs when it comes to salvation, but both are protestant, both believe in scripture, both are christian, both believe in sin, etc etc. They have a lot more in common than they have different.
