again, between 1650 and 1910, that's a long time. not to mention the disease that wiped out 90% of people native to the new world. so it's entirely possible the large cities first described could have been abandoned and swallowed up by foliage rather quickly in tropical jungle climates, as well as many times over in 260 years.
