  8.  @11Kdavid  not perfect but much better than Japan, Russia or Germany winning WW2. Yes it's still a sort of empire, but they actually do promote democracy and human rights along with the opportunistic self benefit of oil, etc. You can think of it as subsidized security for other countries - the Breton woods system made international trade possible for a lot of smaller countries who can't afford navies.

  18. Doesn't USA do a lot do the same (obviously not all or as badly)? USA scrapes and spies on citizens as well as the entire world through PRISM, which we have Edward Snowden to thank for leaking. USA also has mass surveillance on every road intersection.
