Enemy of my enemy is my friend. Japan got shafted by the west after WW1, so there was that resentment. Also, you think someone who is going for their own empire is someone else's bitch? Don't let this "Nazi bad" obsession lens that is fashionable politically nowadays blind you to rational thinking and a richer historical eye.
