well; the case fatality rate is about 5%. that is then number of deaths per identified case. the IFR s per unidentified case and is only estimatable, since you need tests to find the infections and it turns into a case fatality rate. So it's probably not quoted in the news because it's unknowable, and your numbers are estimates only. Still, if the IFR is 0.006, then the CDC thinks that 10 times many more people have the virus than they know about, and the problem is much worse. needless to say, the actual deaths, excess to the normal deaths you'd expect in a ad flu season are far higher, showing that covid is definitely more deadly the the flu.

Peterbilt Pilot then this year's influenza and pneumonia deaths are, not only three months out compared to the normal flu and pneumonia deaths, they are also about 100 times worse than normal. what a crazy flu season! like no other. and also, with massive national lockdowns to keep that carzy flu of 2020 under control too! wow, flu, eh? just the flu.

Peterbilt Pilot I'm not talking about covid deaths, please stop talking about covid numbers. I'm talking about number of deaths of any cause. nothing to do with covid testing. please stop talking about covid testing. the number of deaths from any cause, just counting the bodies of dead people, has spiked three months out of season from a normal flu season, and is 100 times worse despite massive lockdowns. what a crazy flu season, eh? must be just flu.

go out and mingle!

do you wait for them to die before taking a potential infection seriously? surely, by that point, you've failed? So, perhaps it is better to estimate how many could die if they didn't act? by looking at the case fatality rate? Surely, that would be a better number to look at if you were trying to prevent deaths, rather than waiting for people to die and then counting how bad it was when you didn't act to stop deaths?

@VolkColopatrion well; really, the virus is in the main population. you can't stop that without masks anymore. I assume the protests can't help too much, but from the pictures they're all wearing masks and it's outdoors. I'd think the combined time indoors in supermarkets of the general population, all going to the same population centers everyday and not wearing masks is probably a bigger risk than 300 people out doors wearing masks.

@VolkColopatrion I was not aware of the narrative flipping. I thought it was pretty consistent at stay at home if you can; don't mingle if you can, if you must mingle, wear a mask, or at least some covering over your mouth, preferably out doors and stay 2m away from others. It seems when the disease transmission was not well understood originally, they said masks were optional, but now I think the consensus is that they're not.

@VolkColopatrion well, some links would help to support your statements here. whose narrative are you talking about? By unity rally do you mean a unite the right rally? and what are you talking about with the cases being counted? whose narrative was that? the media's or were they just reporting on numbers of cases? I know, for instance, that in the rush to get numbers on cases, taking the results has had revisions, for instance double counting cases where the departments were not in line to match duplicates, but this is not a narrative, it's a genuine mistake during the rush.. please, provide some links so that I can follow the narrative you are describing.

@VolkColopatrion I've googled, but nothing came up: unity rally "bigotry and fear" nyc 2020

@manipulativer labling or no, if you just count deaths, there is a clear spike during the outbreak. whatever caused it, there is a spike. the effect of the virus is undeniable, and far greater than seasonal spikes.
1
@manipulativer even the death rate? I guess you can't trust any stats. what even is the point of the cdc anymore? they do nothing but lie. go out and mingle. have fun. there is a natural stability to reach.
1
@manipulativer regardless of tests. if you count the number of deaths, they spike. significantly more than during the winter over the past years. If it's not covid, something is killing off a lot of people.
1
@manipulativer oh, dear.

Peterbilt Pilot just for some information these are official death numbers only (not covid tested, just number of bodies) in NYC including the previous three year's flu seasons for comparison: https://public.tableau.com/shared/8ZZ7849RP?:toolbar=n&:tabs=n&:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link&:embed=y&:showVizHome=no

Peterbilt Pilot sure. Here is the one from republican Arizona: https://public.tableau.com/shared/TQ6WBN7T7?:toolbar=n&:tabs=n&:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link&:embed=y I guess they all must be RINOs, eh? Probably nothing to do with NY having the major travel hub from europe.
