The reason why Porsche buck the trend is the same reason why people will buy a dog turd as long as it has a BMW badge on it. As for the future I am in the same camp as the guy who said it will become difficult to get fuel in future. People will move to electrification. Demand for fuel will drop, producers will pull out of the market. Fuel will become a niche product and will go up in price - very high. The all fossil fuel cars will become museum pieces. Sad but I think that is what will happen.

@david______9500 Diesel might last longer for agricultural use, HGVs and yachts. But the comparison with leaded fuel is stop on. I would give it about the same time frame. When most of the cars on the road are in the scrapyard and there are only electric cars left then there's no turning back. I suppose it really depends on how long before the electric infrastructure is adequate.
