There are some artists who play the same 3 or 4 chords for the whole song, but still manage to make something epic. Tom Waits does it, Lou Reed could do it, Chris Isaac did it on Wicked Game.

Something I noticed: If you listen to the top hits from every year going back 100 years, the trend is for the tempo to increase. How far can it go?

I think I have always had it to some degree. We lived near a Cold War air force base, and the jets used to fly over the house so low I could see the pilots. They were loud. But that lead to only slight hissing. For about the last 15 years or so, it has been worse. I made it worse by learning to play electric guitar (still learning) and listening to music too loud. I remember when it started. I woke up in the night to the sound of someone tearing up a newspaper. Well, there was no one there, it was the tinnitus. I read it does come from hearing damage, but the brain tries to fill in what is missing from the hearing range. It's like a phantom limb. I try this and that, a vitamin, or listening to noise at just the right pitch. But nothing has worked. Luckily, it is not too bad. The other thing I noticed is that it is louder when I wake up in the morning. I think it is that there is increased blood flow to the brain when you are dreaming. I also get something called exploding head syndrome, an imaginary loud noise while dreaming that wakes you up. I wonder if the two are related.

Kids must be growing up like plants that receive very little light. Twisted and awkward.

I had an iMac for about 7 years until the display hardware failed. I looked at a replacement iMac but there just didn't seem to be any difference to the one I had except the specs had improved. Still no screen bigger than 27", no optical drive, no VR capability. So instead I got a good spec PC, a 32" monitor and a VR headset. I still spent a fair amount on it but I got a game changing new technology. Apple are not really doing that now.

Apple have always had this notion that they know what everyone wants. So rather than making a platform that is open and flexible, albeit harder to use, they lock everything down in a minimal interface that only lets you do what Apple thinks you want to do. Except it isn't.
