His assertion that there is nothing in democracy to pull out of a skid is false. Democracy is the process by which we avoid disaster. People can only rule for a length of time before an election happens and the people vote for what will benefit them the most. This brings rule by majority because if the majority do not benefit then we are in a disaster. The problem is where people try to prevent the mechanism from working. When Michael talks about democracy not working he is really talking about circumventing it so a minority can get their way. This really exemplifies the idiocy of people with this idea. His proposed solution is the very problem.
