He's worked for his money.

The problem Richard has is that he has the enthusiasm of a giant but it's crammed into a tiny body. He's like a hair trigger, the slightest provocation and the enthusiasm explodes.

You need to contact the BBC, compensation is due.

@jimjam6598 The video is not about 99%, just one individual.

@Rude_Potato But the front is just as bad. Disc brakes just don't work very well. The clearance between the pad and the rotor is so minuscule that they always rub no matter what you do.

@smaspa8627 Being able to lift the pedal up when you stop at lights without having to kick the pedal up is a real benefit.

James is probably at a time in his life where he just wants something that is comfortable, easy to get in and out of, works and does not demand attention in any way. He's probably not that into cars anymore.
6
I bet they are clinchers even though he has rim brakes and carbon rims on that one.

Yet the XE was lighter when it came out because they designed a new chassis rather than repurposing the XK.

Finally gone pickup. It sounds like an admission to having got round to enjoying country and western.

And what would Germany say if we told them a German car should only be rear engine? The idea that they should tell anyone else what they are.
2
That's an epic road. I'm inspired want to go there.
2
Get him on for an interview at least. You know we all thought a few years ago that the GCN trio were the cycling equivalent of Clarkson, Hammond and May.
2
If business is slow, you could always get a few more orders by running your competitors off the track.

5:48 'if we stopped industrialising it we'd starve'. Don't given them ideas James.

The Porsche is uuuuugly. Dumpy ugly outside and chinzy tarty ugly inside. It's like a fat girl in heals and suspenders.

That timing chain fault is typical of a BMW engine. Range Rovers have that fault because they used BMW engines. Is this a BMW engine as well?

A car is more than just parts. It is a metal body inhabited by a mechanical soul. If that body changes the soul will no longer feel comfortable and it will vacate. So it's got to be factory original but just enough to work. If you change it you will loose Oliver's soul and it will never return. If you want to do souped-up you can always another for that - Oliver's cousin Ace.

A bit of a faux pas

Tom Waits is a legend.

I always used to ride on the road until I moved somewhere with a dedicated cycle path. Once you start using them you loose the nerve required for traffic, especially in heavy traffic. On the few occasions I ride through London I last about 30 minutes before my nerves are shot and I walk with the bike along the pavement. Takes an hour to go 5 miles.

The front does look slimmer and the original looks a bit flabby now. But the first design was very successful and still looks appealing. I don't go for this idea that it is good practise for a manufacturer to make all their cars look the same. You may as well call them Jaguar small, medium and large. Why not have some individuality in the models? Does a person buy a sports car because it looks like a squashed SUV? No they want something that stands out from the crowd and says something about themselves.
1
They did it for 5G coverage. Because 5G uses MICROWAVES, they are absorbed by just about everything including tree or water on the leaves of trees. So they cut down all the trees. No I'm not joking about any of it. Hello cancer!
1
@R A Do you think they will sell that many?
1
The thing I like about this car is just how much of it is designed an manufactured in Britain. We are such fantastic inventors and mechanical engineers.
1
If comparing the XKR to a Carrera was unfair because of the hp advantage, then it is unfair to compare the XKR to the 911 turbo, for the same reason. Why does it only work one way? Perhaps they should not have done any comparison.
1
@mvmallinson 'defended the appalling Volvo Sat Nav in my DBS as being perfectly good enough'. Good enough is not better or even equal to the products from his brethren. Can never be competitive, always less than.

Have you not seen Clarkson Island?
1
I want to know what is it about more than 1500kgs of downforce that an amature driver could not handle?
1
'I've got the horn for it' What an opening. That's a one liner worthy of an award.

Good that they have done this. All the best to them. Looks wise I'm a bit meh. It's not bad but it doesn't have much of it's own. In it I see a front that kind of borrows from the new Aston Martins and the rest looks like a 720S. They have gone for a doors like the 720, the rear wing is very similar to the 720 but it does not appear to change the angle of attack. The gaping holes at the back are just the eye sockets from the 720 but at the back. I like the short overhangs and the short overall length. It's not bad at all just doesn't have anything of its own.

Exterior styling looks great and so does the interior.

@Syscrush A ray of sunshine in the most dismal year in history.

Get another one, hotrod it and call it something like Flash, Olivers American cousin.
1
Disc brakes, especially cable actuated are more trouble than they are worth. But those third-hand tools are worth every penny.
1
@placeofgaming Hydraulics?
1
@martijnkosters9024 Rim brakes use the rim as a very large diameter and wide rotor. I adjust my pads to be 1-2 mm from the rim. I don't get brake rub.
1
@najaneda Horses for courses. I'm a roadie.
1
@Thic Jon Jones I adjusted them myself as James showed (but before) and I also got them adjusted by a shop. The rotors a very thin. They could do with doubling the thickness to prevent warping.
1
@Fanaleds-software That's my experience so far
1
@hiroprotagonist1587 Perhaps you are referring to MTB brakes with flatbar levers. In my case I was using BB5 road callipers with road levers on a cyclo-cross bike. I found brake run unless the pads were moved far from the rotor. That resulted in 75% dead lever travel, adjusting the pads closer to the rotor reduced dead lever travel but the brakes dragged in proportion to the reduction in lever travel. Close inspection of the rotors showed at least one was slightly warped. A problem made worse by the design of the BB5 brakes where only one pad moves and pushes the rotor onto the second. If the pads had greater movement then clearance could be greater, wider rotors would also help but with the compromise of a weight increase.

With doors like that it is not going to be popular with getaway drivers.

I've got 99 problems but the bit ain't 1

I had this idea for a channel. I buy old VW's like Beetles, Campers, Golfs, etc. and film them being driven over by a tank. With the proceeds from the channel, I work my way up through more expensive VW's until I get to a Veyron and then I drive a tank over that. Any interest in such a channel?

Even a cave man would know better. But about those bothies, if you have the items required to replace the items you find then you would not need the items left there anyway, Not much use if you are really in need.
1
Have they all gone beardy? James has done better with the beard than Jeremy. James looks a bit like Damon Hill whereas Jeremy looks like a vagrant.
1
To be fair the hair was a bit of a state to start with.
1
Did James not see Gerald's limp neck as a challenge for his engineering skills? Maybe some kind of inflatable bladder with a pump could fix the droop.
1
That opening music - a slightly disguised version of Chris Isaak Wicked Game. Amazing, exactly what I was playing on the guitar while watching.
1
If they sell all of them there is about 200M to be had. My guess is Geely are offering to put up the money for this on the promise that Lotus use the proceeds to self fund from then on.
