The reality is the emergence of a black culture from being blocked from full participation in majority culture (and the "not black enough" criticisms). The fantasy is the majority culture is a cake walk for most or all of the majority, aka middle class. The second sends black into a tailspin upon discovery that middle class isn't a cakewalk, and that often is falsely attributed to racism. Also black elites have the same blindness of other elites - Why aren't those poor (black) people saving for rainy days? US does not acknowledge class, nor the barriers between them hardening.
