It has, but they don't even have to (pretend to) ask Congress for permission anymore, they just fire up the printer as needed and bail out the gamblers over the weekend like it's no big deal. It's truly disgusting.

I think Todd is probably is right about the election-time bailouts. The Republicans will certainly not prop the housing market up for Biden, but, the Democrats are totally shameless and crafty, so they will "save" things (illegally) through the regulatory agencies. An agency like HUD will probably "ban" foreclosures and the Fed will shovel money to the banks through the backdoor to make them whole on their "non-performing" loans. The squatters will live rent and mortgage free for a few years, while responsible people question their life decisions as always lol. It's disgusting, but very easy to imagine.

Yep. The market is effectively broken by the unbelievably evil and terrible Fed actions of the last three years (not accidental at all in my view). So almost nobody is listing for sale if they don't have to (although just today I began seeing signs of life in some very dead zip codes). The problem I see, however, is that 13% percent of the US economy relies on the swift movement of real estate, so while the sellers cross their arms, the economy is going to keep slowing down in the background. So, barring some unpredictable event, I personally don't see any type of "happy" resolution where every realtor, mortgage, title and escrow person learns to code overnight and starts making MORE money than they did in Real Estate. They will probably find lesser-paying work, which will then lead to forced sales and apartment downgrades. A similar thing is happening in the auto industry where every salesman was earning $100k+ and now I hear those livelihoods have been greatly reduced as well.

PS, the foreclosure ban regulation will hardly be covered by the news, it will be slipped out on a Friday afternoon press release, as always.
