  1. She threw the pot because he made it clear to her that he was going to execute her. She was forced into flight or fight, initially she went for flight, she ducked into concealment, then when she saw him coming around the counter, ready to carry out his threat to shoot her in her "&^%$# face", her instincts switched to fight. To avoid being murdered she tried to fight back. An analogy is, if a gazelle is hunted by a lion, the gazelle might try to kick out at the lion in the kast seconds to try to survive, but that's entirely a defensive action, and action of desperation to survive.

  3. ​@hugostiglitz5976 if she believed he was going to execute her, no matter what, from her perspective throwing the pot was her only option for survival. Grayson had given her every reason to believe he intended to shoot her in the face and that's exactly what he did. We saw early on how fearful she was of them hurting her.

  4. ​ @vladivanov5500 she didn't throw it, when she saw Grayson coming at her, preparing to carry out his threat to execute her, she did the last thing her instincts told her to do, she put her hands up, as she had previously. With oven gloves on she was unable to control it. When she pulled her left hand down it was unsupported and it started to tilt. From Grayson's perspective her right hand was on the left side of the pot, the only direction she could have pushed the pot was to her left, Grayson's right. The claims that the water and steam appearing from behind the counter are evidence of it being thrown are nonsense, which anyone can demonstrate in their own home - or on another hard flat surface. Hold a pot or small bucket with (I estimate) 3/4 of a gallon of water 4 feet above the ground on your hand, rotate your hand so the bucket falls off. I did this an hour ago on rough concrete pavers, the water washed 9 feet across the pavers. Hot water on a linoleum floor would have gone at least as far.

The reason she threw it was because it was her last desperate act of self-defense, done in the certain belief that Grayson was going to kill her. She had nowhere left to hide. The pot is visible steaming away in some video, where it landed, in the black wheeled chair at the end of the counter.

  10. @Skarr30  the "water fell to the ground after she was shot, splashed across floor, making it visible at the end of the counter" was my preferred theory. It's incorrect. She threw the water because it was her last desperate act of self-defense. She had no doubt that Grayson was going to carry out his threat to kill her. When he came around the counter she had nowhere else to hide.

  11. @Skarr30  in the Illinois state police youtube video of the incident, dated July 6. We can see all the coverage from both BWC's. The pot can be seen steaming away where it landed in the black chair at the end of the counter immediately after the shooting in Grayson's camera. In cop2's camera, we see it there later, when he finally gives assistance to Sonya. As he goes past the chair, the pot is knocked to the floor, that can be heard. Cop2 picks it up from near Sonya and passes it back between his legs. In the same camera frame of him holding it with a cloth, we can see the chair has moved and the pot is no longer in the chair

  12. @Skarr30  it's very hard to put an argument together that the pot managed to get into the chair so quickly, several feet from where Sonya was holding it, without her having thrown it.

  13. @Skarr30  the pot is in the chair. It was thrown at about the time the first shot was fired. She is still visible after the first shot was fired (judging the timing of the shots by the recoil of each shot pushing up Grayson's arms). So it wasn't the first shot that hit her. If it was the last shot that hit her, she would have been all out of pots of hot water, so unarmed, when he shot her. The time between shots is about 0.5 seconds, after each shot Grayson had to re-aim due to the recoil. He had time to realize she was no longer a threat when he fired the fatal shot. Human reaction times are about 0.1 seconds.
