  2. I think the cop got it exactly right. The old codger didn't believe he was acting illegally, so had no intent to break the law. To throw him in jail for unlawful detention or kidnapping would be ludicrous. He appears likely to be moving into senility and room for taking his cognitive decline into account.

  4. The information supplied to the police was that the driver was likely a suspected criminal, involved in a criminal act. If a suspected criminal comes to your door, while performing a criminal act, are you justified in pointing a firearm at him? Probably.
