  1. There's an interesting Gallup poll out on perceptions of the Russian leadership of people in the former Soviet Republics. It includes the responses of ethnic Russians in those former Soviet Republics, they're also turning against Putin.

  2. If Putin is using Pregozhin in the way you describe it's almost certainly a disastrous strategy, the damage to Russian forces is going to be a thousand times greater than any benefits. What Russian soldier wants to fight in such a hopeless army? So while I'm skeptical, I can't dismisses your theory as a possibility, we do see leadership in business organizations that destroy those organizations through similarly appalling strategies of attacking their own top people, trying to get the foot soldiers to hate those immediately above them. If you are correct to me it might be Putin laying the ground for a Russian exit from Ukraine, with Putin pushing the blame onto the generals, the army, nato whomever he can to shift the blame off of himself.
