There are two types of government: Government that is answerable to the people, and government in which the people are subservient. The two are not natural allies in international affairs.

@Babuka54 it's not about who you are, true democracies don't often have differences between them turn into warfare. Since independence, when has India had military conflict with another democracy? In autocracies, the Rulers are less answerable to the people, so are less concerned about lots of them dieing in warfare.

@Shva927 "expansionist" the US hasn't annexed the territory of another country for over 150 years, it does sometimes feel the need to be the world's policeman, but typically it's military adventures are interventions after someone else started a war, the US trying to end the conflict in favor of the side it more closely identifies with. Russia and the Soviet Union before it, have annexed several countries entirely, and territory from several others in the last 100 years.

@Shva927 there was no threat to Russia. The wars that I support are wars against aggressors and wars against those committing genocide.
