People with pre-existing conditions could always buy a policy, rather like saying I'll give free shoes to everyone who can wear them - in a room full of penguins with no feet - only to find out later it didn't pay out a DIME for ANYthing. Obozo did not fix that. He simply made us criminals if we didn't pay his insurance friends for nothing. He went to college in Chicago, that should sum up his morals.

  19. @George Oliver Unhirable due to being crippled, I made my own way, but without the group plans, as a self employed artist, I quickly found I could pay my own medical bills cheaper. Back in the 80's insurance wanted $1500 per month to actually cover anything for me, and then it wasn't much - I mean I had dentists and eye doctors for customers / friends, I needed the hospital stuff - no go. I know many like me - my tale is hardly unique. The non crippled people weren't treated much better.

  20. @George Oliver People tend to stick with what they've been sold already, believe in, even if it's junk. Lot's of people have junk policies, like storm insurance on their house when actually what they're paying for in "an act of God" and not covered. Maybe I should mention that several of my friends owned insurance offices, so I also know about things like having your head office in Texas and selling in Florida because the differing laws result in paying out very little. But those 20 page official looking doc packets sure look good to the buyers who are unaware. Or getting the governor to declare a storm an "emergency" so the payouts become the state's problem.

I would ask you what it's like to be useless, but since you've never been anythign else, you'd have no reference to draw from. I don't know what people are signing up for, and neither do you.
