In a history textbook, i remember a paragraph, and i quote "The Japanese were even more ruthless and sadistic compared to the colonial Dutch. However that does not mean the Indonesian people prefer under Dutch rule than Japanese rule." It still made me chuckle to this day. Especially the "prefer Dutch rule over Japanese"

arif mark007 It is because of religion. British Indian soldiers were sympathetic to the Muslim Indonesians.

Jokes aside, we use captured weapons.

@yulusleonard985 Captured weapons, from Allied or Japanese. Ammunition availability is surely a problem are surely a problem, but again, capturing and maybe locally produced makeshift ammunition. Of course bamboo were used in some ocassion. If you really think Indonesian revolution were fought with bamboos, facing British bombers, warships, and tanks then the Dutch flag red white and blue would be flying over Indonesia today. It is a big stigma enforced by poetry that the revolution was won by primitive weapon.

arif mark007 https://historia.id/politik/articles/sesama-islam-dilarang-berperang-vqrGE One example. Indonesian btw. I kept the conversation in english so others could understand.

It's kinda embarassing. America is mentioned only once, no Americans are showing their nationality. Germany mentioned, the same Any third world country mentioned and everybody showed up, flooding the entire comment section.

If you want to absorb a colony, please take a look at one this point. Did you get local support? Guam and Hawaii supported US government, that is why they absolutely have no problem becoming a US territory. Indonesia is not perfect, but they liked it that way. The thinking of radical Islam is frowned upon by the society. The relations with Papuans are getting better. I dont know what Mulakkas is.

@yulusleonard985 Then the Indonesian military museums would have no Indonesian revolutionary war exhibits. Let me point out that the Indonesians do use firearms to a certain extent. You were right about rarity of ammunition, but the war was fought with guns too. That is why there are rifles and pistols on war memorial statues. Even Bandung fire was sparked by an ammunition warehouse. There must be more looted by the Republicans to support their war. And in the end the Dutch won militarily and Indonesia won politically, you are correct on that part.

Even if they did not given up, they would eventually be frowned upon by their allies. And since the Dutch relied on foreign support to rebuild, they cant risk getting isolated.

America did the right thing invading Korea and helping the south though.

@RR-SQ European Propaganda? Yeah sure, buddy. As an Indonesian myself, if i ask anyone about Imperial Japanese rule, the first thing that comes to their mind is the comfort women and Romusha. Nobody remembers the literacy and defending the newly established Indonesian nation part. And we also dislike the Dutch for the re-invading and stuff during the National Revolution. So no, we do not like the Dutch, but that doesn't mean we prefer Japanese rule.

@RR-SQ Ugly history is still ugly even if there are some benefits.

I wouldnt say so. For example, there is a game that plays Georgian song, only a handful of proud Georgians came to the comment section. I think this applies to a 3rd world country with quite high population number. Like India, Indonesia, Philipines, and many more

@joey199412 I forgot to ask. What do you mean authoritarian autocracy? Ever since Soeharto's regime, Indonesia never had any Authoritarian regime.

@yulusleonard985 I dont understand you. How is your comment debunked my comment about Indonesian militias using captured weapons?

@brandon9172 We call it the communist purge. It is a good thing, because we dont like communists ruining every country.
