It took 160 years (early 1800 to 1960s) to replace steam train with diesel. Now that gasoline engine has exist from 1880s-today (140 years), it's a good time to start looking for a better replacement.

Gas powered cars have been around for 130 years (1890-today), while electric powered car have been around for only 10-20 years. Typical people rejecting new technologies.

He is spearheading revolutionary technology and trying to bring it cheaper for the mass. Tony Stark just plays god. Did he actually create the arc reactor to revolutionize energy generation, bringing it to the masses? Or instead he just make a cool suit?

So far, IC engines have 30% efficiency (energy from gasoline converted to kinetic) with the rest are converted to wasted energy, heat, etc, and they have 45 mj/kg Electric motors have around 90% efficiency, and lithium ion battery have 0.8 mj/kg. Since Karl Benz's first car in 1890s have significantly weaker engine than today, i believe electric cars can be further improved in the future.

Eh, give it time. Maybe it'll be good for something in the future.

It's hard to accept new technology. But Tesla is pushing new technology now so it can be cheaper and better in the future.

@rbaron7352 Electric vehicles are still in its infancy. Of course it is currently by the matured fossil fuel engines in some area. Give it time. The technology is rapidly developing, and we'll see an EV driven by lower - middle income people too.

@rbaron7352 And also, I think the electric vehicle technology is advancing exponentially

@rbaron7352 Or should i say "electric cars", just to satisfy you. There were never a problem with the electric motor itself. The problem is always the same since Edison and Ford's collaboration to make an electric car back in the 1920s: how to store the energy.
