  24.  @pindot787  Unlike consumer junk, weapons production is shrinking. So for defense contractors to profit, they must charge more to cover R&D, lobbying, bribes, rising staff and operating costs on lower production runs. No new US weapon system has fallen in cost, like Apple products.

F35 production will probably be stopped by 2030, due to a deep recession, Taiwanese unwillingness to fight a US proxy war against China, and continuing F35 reliability issues.

How can Lockheed cover the $billions in R&D, skilled labor and tooling costs on a handful of production planes? Only 2 $12billion Ford class carriers ($37 billion development cost) and one $8 billion Zummult destroyer ($22.5billion development) were built. The US does not have the industrial base to mass produce weapons, like in WWII.
