  2. @davemccrillis1470  Yes. US placed nukes in Turkey. Castro asked for Soviet nukes after US failed Bay of Pigs invasion and CIA assassination attempts. US generals advised bombing missile sites, but were unaware that the missiles were armed, and the Soviet commander had authority to launch under attack. US removed nukes from Turkey after Soviets removed nukes from Cuba. Would not have been peacefully deescalated today.
