  5.  @chuckbre5961  Most of the recruits don't have the skills or education for tech jobs. And most vets have no clue about job prospects in the civilian world. Especially those from rural towns or ghettos, with few employment options.

  6. I was an army computer programmer. I taught myself assembly language, and developed commercial sims in my spare time. My roommates just drank and partied. I got tired of waking them to report for duty.

  8. In the US, mostly the poor, and uneducated serve. So why would they be attracted to join if they are not respected?

  9.  @B1GK1NG  America's education system is a joke. It is ranked at the bottom of the developed world. Most high school grads can't find Ukraine, or name the US VP. I personally tutored functionally illiterate college math students (reading the textbook was the biggest problem).

  10.  @robertkeaney9905  I was an unemployed aerospace engineer in Long Island. Kmart replaced Grumman as no 1 employer. The US military lost in Vietnam because of over reliance on the poor.
